James Goyder - About me
I am a freelance journalist and photographer based in Asia and specializing in combat sports such as MMA, Muay Thai and boxing. My articles appear regularly in the Phnom Penh Post, Taipei Times, Phuket News, Cebu Daily News, MMA Mania and Boxing Scene and I travel all over the region to report on live events and can regularly be found cageside or ringside at venues like Lumpinee Stadium or Rajadamnern Stadium in Bangkok, the Cotai Arena in Macau, the SM Mall of Asia Arena in Manila, Stadium Negara in Kuala Lumpur, the Cotai Arena in Macau and the Singapore Indoor Stadium.
In recent months I've covered major boxing events in Macau, Singapore and the Philippines, major Muay Thai events in Thailand and Malaysia and major MMA events in Singapore, Indonesia and the Philippines as well as numerous smaller regional shows in places ranging from Phattalung to Bohol. I've also worked as a commentator for shows being broadcast by ESPN Star Sports and Eurosport and am a regular guest on Radio New Zealand's evening sports show.
I have been based in Thailand since 2007 and spent a two year stint as a reporter at the Phuket Gazette but have been a full time freelancer ever since relocating to Bangkok. I spend the vast majority of my time writing about boxing, MMA and Muay Thai but have also been known to cover conflicts, protests, natural disasters, crime and football and my work has appeared in newspapers and magazines including The Bangkok Post, The Nation, The New Paper (Singapore), The Guardian, The Observer, The Telegraph, World Soccer, Loaded and Air Asia Magazine.
I have also conducted live television or radio interviews with the BBC, Fox News and Al Jazeera and am interested in any sort of assignment, whether written, spoken or photographic. You can contact me
